The Senate Deputy Chief Whip and Senator Representing Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has sought collaboration with the Chairman of Ado local government area of Benue State, Hon Sunny Oche, to ensure smooth take-off and construction of the grading and rehabilitation of the link road connecting Ebonyi and Benue states.

Senator Nwebonyi noted that he is seeking collaboration and partnership with the Council boss to protect the lives and equipment of those handling the projects along the Ebonyi and Benue axis.

He noted the Ebonyi-Benue-Abuja link road would open the two states to agricultural potential and boost economic prosperity.

Senator Nwebonyi said that on his assumption of office, he moved a motion of urgent public importance on the Senate floor regarding the need to construct the Ebonyi-Benue link road, which was conceived by the colonial masters around 1958.

He noted that the link road has been captured in the federal government‘s 2024 budget, and construction is set to commence soon. „The survey and design have also been completed.

He said that in addition to the link road, he has also flagged off the construction of over twenty kilometres of internal roads within the four council areas in the Ebonyi North Senatorial district.

Reacting to the appeal, the Council Chairman of Ado Local Government, Hon Oche, emphasised that the road, when completed, would open windows of opportunities for the two sister states.

He stated that the initiative aligns with his commitment and determination to open up rural roads, especially the Ebonyi-Benue link road.

He commended Senator Nwebonyi for attracting the all-important road, which he said would boost economic activities and foster unity between the two brother states. He added that he would provide the needed support to ensure the project‘s timely completion.

The link road is expected to cut across Isophumini, Ohagelode, Ugboenyim, Ndumbam, Nduidenyi and Onuebo villages through the Ijigban axis of Benue state.
