A former member of the House of Representatives and former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Omosede Gabriella Igbinedion, has said Edo State governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo is a grassroots politician abreast of the people’s yearnings.
Hon Igbinedion, in a congratulatory message, hailed Senator Okpebholo following his victory in the September 21 governorship election. He said the mandate was divine and represented the will of the people.
The former lawmaker recently joined the APC, breaking away from her traditional PDP family lineage to support Senator Okpebholo and Hon. Idahosa.
Hon. Igbinedion expressed joy that the “Ovia Agenda” she pushed for finally came to fruition.
She said the two legislators, from rural backgrounds, would best pilot the affairs of the State.
According to her, “Senator Okpebholo’s victory is a testament to his humility, effort, respect and commitment to the people of Edo State. I am elated that “A New Edo is rising”, in the words of Senator Monday Okpebholo.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Okpebholo the winner of the election after he secured 291,667 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes, and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata, who got 22,763 votes.
