The Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has rewarded Master Daniel Osagiobare, the fourth-best candidate in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), with N1 million for his outstanding academic performance.
Osagiobare, an Edo indigene, scored 368 in the examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), emerging as the highest scorer in the South-South geopolitical zone. He was received by the deputy governor at the Government House in Benin City on Wednesday.
Idahosa described the student’s feat as a source of pride for Edo State, saying his performance reflected the potential of young people in the state when given the right support and encouragement.

He said the cash reward was aimed at recognising excellence and motivating other students to strive for academic success, adding that the Senator Monday Okpebholo administration remained committed to investing in quality education and nurturing young talents.
He said Osagiobare’s achievement has projected Edo positively on the national stage, assuring that the state government would continue to identify and support exceptional students capable of contributing to the state’s development and the nation’s growth.
Responding, Osagiobare thanked the deputy governor for the recognition and financial support, describing the gesture as a major encouragement that would inspire him to remain committed to his academic pursuits.
 His father, Christopher Osagiobare, also expressed appreciation, saying the reward would motivate not only his son but other young Nigerians aspiring to excel academically.
The presentation, witnessed by government officials and members of the student’s family, underscored the Edo State Government’s resolve to reward academic excellence and promote education as a catalyst for personal advancement and national development.
