The Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) has lauded the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Dunamis Icon for their “landmark initiative” in successfully organising the weightlifting event at the Edo 2026 2nd Niger Delta Games. The championship, held in Benin City, has been hailed as a significant boost for grassroots sports development and youth engagement in the region.
Dr. Ibrahim Abdul, President of the NWF, though absent due to other national commitments, conveyed his praise through representatives Barrister Amos Dushu and Dr. Steve Olarinoye. Dr. Abdul commended the organisers’ vision and seamless execution, stating, “The Nigeria Weightlifting Federation is deeply impressed with the standard of organisation and the quality of competition witnessed here… The NDDC and Dunamis Icon have shown that sports can serve as a powerful instrument to positively engage our youths.”
He further assured that the NWF would nurture discovered talents, integrating them into a national database for “structured mentorship, technical guidance and long-term development opportunities.” Dr. Abdul also encouraged other Nigerian regions to adopt this model for youth engagement.
