The Edo State Government has identified digital technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as key tools for unlocking the state’s tourism potential, promoting its cultural heritage and creating economic opportunities through the creative industry.

The government stated this at the 2026 World Tourism Day celebration organised by the Edo State Tourism Agency (EDSTA), with the theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”

The event commenced with a road walk from the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) Gate, Benin City, and continued with a symposium at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA).

The celebration was hosted by the Director-General of EDSTA, Lady Vivian Elabor, with Governor Monday Okpebholo as Chief Host. Hon. Dennis Idahosa and Mrs Edesili Okpebholo Anani attended as Special Guests of Honour.

The event provided an opportunity for stakeholders to examine how Edo State could leverage emerging technologies to showcase its rich cultural heritage, historical landmarks and tourism destinations to a wider international audience.
