Edo Governor’s Aide Apologises To Davido Over ‘No Performance’ Remarks

The Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Edo State governor Monday Okpebholo, Apostle Kassy Chukwu, has apologised to singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and residents of the state over remarks he previously made concerning the singer’s possible performance in Edo.

Chukwu clarified that the comments, which suggested that Davido should not expect to perform in Edo during Okpebholo’s tenure, were made in his personal capacity and were not authorised by the governor or the state government.

In a video shared by THEWILL NEWSPAPER on X on Saturday, Chukwu said his remarks followed his personal reaction to a statement he attributed to Davido concerning the governor’s children.

According to him, the video was not made in his official capacity as a government appointee.

He said, “I didn’t do that video as an appointee of the government and I didn’t do that video by the instruction of the governor of Edo State or by the permission of the governor of Edo State. I did that video in my personal capacity as a son of the governor who was offended by the video statement that the governor’s children should be ashamed of their father.”

Chukwu also apologised to Okpebholo for any embarrassment his comments may have caused, stressing that the governor does not support violence, threats or oppression.

“I want to apologise to his Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for whatever embarrassment my comment may have caused him. Our governor is a peace-loving governor who does not tolerate violence or threat or oppression,” he said.

The governor’s aide further apologised to Edo residents, noting that his comments should not be interpreted as representing the views of the people of the state.

He described Edo people as welcoming and accommodating, and expressed regret to anyone who found his earlier remarks offensive.

“My comment, in my personal opinion, did not reflect the opinion of all Edo people in any way. Edo people are loving people and they are accommodating people. I want to apologise to every son and daughter of Edo who have seen my video as disrespectful and not accepted. I want to say I’m really sorry,” he said.

Addressing Davido directly, Chukwu asked the singer to disregard his earlier statement and assured him that he would be welcomed in Edo State.

“I apologise to every good-meaning Edo person and to my brother, Davido. I love you. Please disregard my earlier comment. Edo loves you and, of course, you are welcome home anytime, any day, in Edo State. Feel free to come to Edo State,” he said.

Chukwu also praised Okpebholo’s administration, describing the governor as committed to peace and the development of Edo State.

He cited improvements and ongoing efforts in road infrastructure, education and security, while saying the administration was also working to revive nightlife and make the state more attractive to investors.

“Our governor is a lovely, peace-keeping governor. He does not tolerate violence or any form of disrespect. Edo is shining. The governor is doing everything within his power to make sure that Edo works again, with all the good road infrastructure, good education, security, and bring back nightlife to Edo,” he said.

He added that Edo was safe for investors and reaffirmed that residents of the state welcomed visitors.
