A controversy has erupted in Edo State over the tragic death of Mrs. Franca Eshiofune, a pregnant woman who was reportedly assaulted and buried alive by her husband, Mr. John Ediawe, in Okpella, Etsako East local government area.

According to reports, Mrs. Eshiofune lost her life after a marital dispute turned violent, leading to severe beatings that resulted in her death along with her unborn baby.

In a viral video that has sparked outrage on social media, her eight-year-old son, Promise, confirmed the incident, saying, “My father beat my mother and she died.”

Meanwhile, the family of the late Mrs. Eshiofune claimed they were pressured to bury her immediately due to the absence of a mortuary willing to accept her remains with the baby still in the womb.

A concerned lady narrating the incident in the viral clip said, “I stumbled upon this disturbing video this morning that broke me as a woman. A man allegedly beat his wife who later died from the pains and complications. She was buried just like that with her baby. This happened almost a week ago and nothing has been done because the late woman had nobody.”

The heartbreaking incident has triggered calls for justice and accountability, with many demanding that the Edo State Government, office of the first lady and law enforcement agencies investigate and bring the alleged culprit to book.
