Indications have emerged that a Labour Party group under the aegis of Edo Obedient Movement has perfected plans to throw their weight behind the joint ticket of Senator Monday Okpebholo and his running mate, Hon Dennis Idahosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 21 governorship election in the state.

A member of the group, who do not want to be mentioned confided in LEADERSHIP Sunday that their group is excited with the political pair of Okpebholo and Idahosa noting that Edo State is set for the take by the APC.

“In the next few weeks, we shall come out in our numbers to publicly declare our support for the APC candidate and his running mate. All we are interested in is an Edo State the citizens will be proud to call their own.

Meanwhile, the movement at a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Benin City, passed a vote of no confidence on Edo State chapter of the Labour Party on the way and manner it conducted its primaries alleging that the process was compromised to the highest bidder.

A statement signed on behalf leaders of the Edo Obedient Movement by Comrade Felix Ikhuenbor said the movement is not a member of any political party but a group that is at liberty to see to the enthronement of a better society and Nigeria.

“LP which supposed to provide an alternative platform has become the worst and conducted the worst primary election in Edo State. It must be clear that this unholy action is anti-Obedient Movement and against what H.E. Peter Obi is known and stands for, therefore must be rejected.

“We cannot fold our hands and allow our dear state to be further mortgaged to evil elements. Those who sell party ticket, should have examined the buyer to know that they do not have footprints in Edo State before coming into the party and no support from them during the presidential election when the party was without structure knowing fully well that the candidacy of Mr Peter Obi was for the masses and national rescue.

“While assuring H.E. Mr Peter of our continuous support for him, we advise that he provides leadership in Labour Party and do a thorough review of the party leadership and purge them of all contaminating symptoms ahead of 2027.”
