The Speaker of Edo House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, on Tuesday apologised for the rowdy session at the Monday plenary where three lawmakers were suspended over alleged plot for his removal.

LEADERSHIP reliably learnt that the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have waded into the crisis that led to the suspension in a bid to recall the lawmakers.

The Speaker had on Monday suspended the lawmakers indefinitely for allegedly plotting to unseat him and other principal officers.

The suspended lawmakers are Okogbe Donald, PDP, Akoko-Edo II; Addeh Isibor, APC, Esan North-East I, and Iyamu Bright, PDP, Orhionnwon II.

Agbebaku also accused the lawmakers of bringing native doctors to the House on May 1 for fetish purpose.

“I wish to apologise to the staff of this Assembly for what happened on Monday during plenary. It was not our intention to create tension in the House.

“I am sure that this is not the first time you are experiencing such. We promise that it will not happen again. This apology is because we hold you in high esteem, “Agbebaku said.

Meanwhile, other members met with the suspended member for several hours to try and find a solution to the crisis and to ensure that the suspended members rejoin the House.

One of the members who pleaded anonymity said that the idea behind the meeting was to find out ways to lift the suspension.

The member said, “We met today (Tuesday) to find a way of lifting the suspension on the three members. There will be a meeting on Thursday and hopefully, the suspension will be lifted on Monday at plenary on Monday.

“We all agreed that the suspension is not constitutional, and it has put the House in disrepute.”
