The Cross River State Education Commissioner, Senator Stephen Odey, has promised to conduct a free and fair aptitude test for staff of the ministry vying for key positions in local government education authorities (LGEAs) in the Ikom Education zone.

The commissioner made this pledge on Tuesday in Calabar while answering questions from LEADERSHIP.

He said that with fairness, the best among the individuals jostling for the position of local government education authority can be picked to fill the position.

Odey said, “The process is going to be strictly merit-based, transparent, and performance-driven,” reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to competence in leadership.

The Commissioner extends his best wishes to all participants and assures candidates that the selection process will be fair and credible.

The former senator who represented the Cross River North Senatorial district at the National Assembly said, “Our expectation is for the exercise to bring in new leadership to drive education development in the state,” he said.

The tests are being held at the Ministry of Education Headquarters in Calabar and supervised by the Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey, Esq.

The positions up for grabs include Executive Secretaries (ES) for several LGEAs and the Coordinating Supervisory Director (CSD) for Ikom Educational Zone.

Other positions being vied for include Executive Secretary for Obanliku, Yakurr, Obudu, Odukpani, Abi, Akamkpa, Calabar Municipality, and Bakassi LGEAs.

The education commissioner oversaw the exercise, which followed recent retirements and the expiration of tenure in the affected offices.
