As part of activities to mark the University of Calabar (UniCal)’s 31st convocation, the minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, has commissioned three pavilions, two hostels and the state of-the-arts building belonging to the Department of Mass Communication all worth millions of naira to add value to the institution.
The minister who commissioned the projects in company of the executive secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sunny Echono, stated that the projects would provide comfort to students pursuing various academic programmes at the institution.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the commissioning ceremony, the minister expressed satisfaction with the way and manner in which the projects were executed.
“I encourage them to continue to provide more facilities and the ones we have commissioned, they should maintain them to ensure that they are in good form.
The vice chancellor of the university, Prof Florence Obi, enumerated facilities available at the Mass Communication Department to include, control room, electronics workshop, lecture room and offices.
“It’s a massive building. It was awarded in 2015,” he said.
Obi added that she was honoured by the presence of the minister and executive secretary of TETFund, Mr Sunny Echono as part of the team for the inauguration.
“I am especially glad that a representative of TETFund is here. I hope having seen the projects, they will be impressed to give us more interventions for more projects,” the VC stated.
