In the pursuit of excellence in public service delivery, the Federal Ministry of Education has embarked on a journey to empower human resource management in public service for administrative and executive cadre staff of the Ministry through targeted training programmes.
The permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, declared opened the two-day sensitisation workshop on professionalisation of the human resource management in Abuja yesterday.
The workshop, themed, “Professionalisation of human resource management in civil service for administrative and executive officers in the headquarters and FCT,” was organised by the human resources management department of the Federal Ministry of Education.
Walson-Jack disclosed that the workshop was unique because it is the first to be held service-wide by any MDA. “I am honoured to stand before you today as we embark on this significant journey towards enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of our human resource management practices.
“As we gather here, it is essential to recognize the pivotal role that human resources play in driving organizational success and fostering growth and development within our ministry. The landscape of public service is continually evolving, and so too are the challenges and demands placed upon our workforce. It is incumbent upon us, therefore, to equip ourselves with the requisite skills, knowledge, and competencies to navigate these complexities adeptly.
“The theme of this workshop, “Professionalization of Human Resource Management,” underscores the importance of adopting a strategic and professional approach to managing our human capital. Professionalization entails not only acquiring technical expertise but also embracing a mindset that prioritizes excellence, integrity, and innovation in all facets of our work.”
She further said the workshop provided a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing among colleagues from different departments and units within the ministry. “By leveraging our collective experiences and insights, we can identify synergies, address common challenges, and chart a course towards continuous improvement and excellence in HRM practices,” she added.
On his part, the director human resource management, Mr. Omotayo Adeyemi said the aim of the workshop was to raise awareness on the importance and the necessary steps towards approved Human Resource (HR) professional certifications for Administrative and Executive Officers in the FME as well as promote dialogue on opportunities and challenges with a view to mitigating those challenges towards enhancing HR professionalism.
“It is pertinent to stress that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) Circular on “Professionalization of the Human Resource Management in the Federal Civil Service” is designed to streamline the practice of human resource management and enhance the capacities of Administrative Officers serving in the Human Resources Management (HRM) and related departments service-wide.”
