The Kano State Executive Council has approved projects worth ₦79.49billion across critical sectors, with education, water resources and road infrastructure receiving the largest share of the allocations.
The approvals were part of resolutions reached at the 39th Executive Council meeting held on April 28, 2026, at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on the outcome of the meeting.
According to the statement, “The funds would be channelled towards projects aimed at improving governance, boosting public welfare and accelerating socio-economic development across the state.
“In the education sector, the council approved several interventions, including ₦4.45billion for the payment of registration fees for external examinations such as NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS for Kano indigenes in 2026.
“An additional ₦2billion was earmarked for the procurement of school furniture for primary and junior secondary schools across 30 local government areas.
“The state also approved ₦834.49million for the settlement of debts owed to foodstuff suppliers serving boarding schools, as well as funds for the renovation, construction and rehabilitation of schools across multiple local government areas.
“Water resources accounted for some of the largest allocations, with ₦11.39billion approved for the rehabilitation of the Challawa Water Intake Station, Water Treatment Plants and Goron Dutse Reservoirs.”
The Council also approved ₦9.94billion for the rehabilitation of the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, alongside ₦566.8million for diesel supply settlement and ₦227.28million for electricity bills to Kano Electricity Distribution Company.
In the works and infrastructure sector, ₦5.2billion was approved for the construction of the road from Panshekara Underpass to Madobi Bridge.
Other road-related projects included ₦574.35million for the reconstruction of road networks in Gwale Local Government Area and further allocations for road maintenance and related infrastructure upgrades.
The health sector also received significant attention, with approvals covering the renovation of Wudil General Hospital, procurement of hospital equipment, immunisation programmes and free maternal, neonatal and child health services across 484 primary healthcare centres.
In agriculture, the council approved ₦3.49billion for the procurement of 41,386 bags of fertiliser, while other funds were set aside for irrigation schemes and renovation of agricultural offices.
Urban development projects also featured prominently, with allocations for road markings, street naming, house numbering and compensation for land acquisition.
The government said the approvals reflected the commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and overall socio-economic wellbeing in the state.
It assured residents that all approved projects would be executed in line with due process and accountability measures.
