Stakeholders in the education sector have called on the federal government to include teachers in policy formulations to improve school curriculum development nationwide.

The educationists who made this call during a press conference organised by the group and held in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, reiterated the need for teachers to be included in the FG’s policy formulation to tackle the shortage of developmental ideas.

They hinted at a one-million-teacher programme conference, saying there will be a one-million gathering of teachers in Lagos on 20 September 2025.

The director of strategic partnership at 1Million Teachers, Executive and also the Convener, Let there be teachers, Oluwaseyi Anifowose, while speaking with LEADERSHIP shortly after the close of the press conference, organised by the group, said the event is to sensitise the general public to the planned single gathering of educators.

According to Anifowose, “Teachers, parents, and students are always at the receiving end of negative policies. Policymakers should involve teachers when designing things that will affect educational activities because teachers know how to bring ideas to move the country forward. We cannot build the nation without involving educators in developing things that will lead to the country’s development.

“Although brain-drain now commonly called Japa has been affecting all sectors, and although October 5 is global world teachers day, we chose 20 september ahead of the 5th October to show that the teaching profession is worst hit because of low morale as a result of low welfare package and dearth of infrastructure, that are confronting the sector”.

Anifowose noted that the moves would act as a tool to restore the teaching profession’s lost glory and an empowerment to encourage more people to join the task of giving the country a sound educational structure.

He said, “We want to use this event to transform minds because teaching is a movement to redefine teaching so that it must not be derailed.”
