EFCC Arrests 3 For Spraying Naira Notes At Burial Ceremony In Delta

Operatives of the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested three persons for suspected naira mutilation and abuse.

The suspects are Stanley Ogbolu, 35, Odiaka Sorwu 42 and Kelvin Anyakwu, 42

The suspects were arrested in Asaba, Delta State at a burial ceremony where they were allegedly spraying naira notes on a celebrant.

The anti-graft agency said the arrest followed credible intelligence on the suspects’ involvement in naira abuse.

EFCC said the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

 

In another development, the Delta Police have arrested suspected armed robbers terrorising Sapele community and where they recovered pistol others illegal items.

 

Acting on credible intelligence, the special squad of policemen deployed to Ughelli by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi to checkmate the activities of kidnappers and armed robbers in Ughelli, Warri, Sapele and environs, successfully arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered their weapons which they used to terrorise innocent residents in Sapele.

 

The team led by ASP Julius Robinson stormed Sapele on the said date and effected the arrest of one Blessing Atima aged 23yrs ‘m’ of Jesse Community in Ethiope west LGA of Delta State, the Gang Leader; Destiny Okpako age 19yrs, a 23year ‘M’ of Oviri-Okpe Community in Okpe LGA of Delta State and Wisdom Akpohirowho aged 20, ‘m’ of Jesse Community in Ethiope west LGA of Delta state, all residents of Sapele town.

 

Interrogation of the suspects revealed that they have so far taken part in six of the armed robbery operations in Sapele.

 

Spokesman of the Command, SP Edafe Bright, who disclosed this in a statement added that, “Exhibits were recovered from them- one Beretta pistol, one locally cut-to-size gun, three cutlasses, phones and ATM cards belonging to victims.”

Bright said further that some of their victims have identified the suspects and their valuables recovered from them.

“The suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing,” he said.
