In an effort to check corruption, examination malpractice and cyber fraud threatening the nation’s wellbeing, Economic and Financial Crimes  Commission (EFCC)  Uyo Zonal Command has  equipped students of University of Cross River, UNICROSS, with tools that can make them become advocates  of anti-corruption crusade in the society.

The commission also set up Zero Tolerance Club in the institution to fight corruption.

The club, according to the EFCC commander for Uyo Zonal Command, Mr Bawa Hamidu, will help to check the activities of cyber criminals whose stock in trade is to defraud innocent citizens of their fortunes via the cyber space.

Inaugurating the club at the UNICROSS New Cafeteria yesterday at the institution’s main campus in Calabar, Hamidu urged the club members to see themselves as members of the command by reporting all cases that are not in tandem with societal norms and values.

The assistant zonal commander identified the core values of  the Zero Tolerance Club as “integrity, honesty, discipline, responsibility, tolerance and patriotism.”

He said the club would be empowered to do all things necessary for the attainment of its aims and objectives.

“In doing so, the club shall adhere to all policies and guidelines of the school and society where it is found.

“The club shall partner with EFCC through information gathering and sharing, aimed at checking corrupt practices in your environment.

“I urge you to identify corrupt tendencies and practices in your environment and deal with them by doing something in order to eradicate them and prepare members for future leadership role.”

In his remarks, the vice chancellor, Prof Austin Angba, thanked the EFCC for inaugurating the club, stressing that he was sure that the aims and objectives of the club would be actualised.

Also, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) president, Mr Paulinus Unah, promised to work with the commission to ensure that the level of rot in the institution are checked without any fear or favour.
