The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee, said Eid al-Fitr would be celebrated on Friday.
According to the Sultanate, it did not receive any report from various Moon Sighting Committees across the country confirming the sighting of the New Moon of Shawwal 1447AH.
The Committee said the moon was not sighted on Wednesday, 18th March, 2026, which was the 29th day of Ramadan 1447AH.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar III, said that fasting continues today, but tomorrow, Friday, will be Sallah.
The Sultan said Thursday, 19th March, 2026 is the 30th day of the month of Ramadan 1447AH, after accepting the report of the Moon Sighting Committee, he declared Friday, 20th March, 2026 as the first day of Shawwal 1447AH. (Day of Eid al-Fitr).
A statement signed by Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Wazirin Sokoto, andChairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, quoted the Sultan as felicitating with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wishing them Allah’s guidance and blessings.
The Sultan, while urging the Muslim Ummah to continue praying for peace, progress, and the development of the Country, also wishes all Muslims a happy Eid al-Fitr.
“May Allah (SWT) accept our religious deeds,” he said.
