The Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria has thrown its weight behind the ongoing debate on the establishment of state police, calling for comprehensive reforms to address the country’s growing security challenges.
The Muslim organisation made this known in its Eid-el-Fitr message, where it also urged the international community to prioritise peace, dialogue, justice, and the protection of innocent lives amid escalating global conflicts.
In the statement signed by its national publicity secretary, Dr. Muhammed Hassan, on behalf of the President, Prince Mosediq Kazeem (SAN), the society called on Nigerians to use the festive period for sober reflection on their collective responsibilities toward national unity and development.
It expressed concern over persistent insecurity in the country, including banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism, and urged the federal government to intensify efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
The group noted that the current centralised policing structure has shown limitations in effectively addressing Nigeria’s diverse security issues.
It, therefore, advocated a properly regulated, multi-layered security framework that would complement federal efforts and enhance community-based intelligence gathering in combating crime.
Ansar-Ud-Deen stressed that meaningful reforms in the security sector, alongside a commitment to justice and inclusive dialogue, are essential to achieving lasting peace and stability in the country.
