Christian clerics on Wednesday joined thousands of Muslim faithful at the Eid praying ground in Murtala Mohammed Square, Kaduna, to mark Eid-el-Kabir and promote religious harmony, peaceful coexistence, and national unity.
The delegation, led by the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Pastor Yohanna Buru, said the visit was aimed at strengthening interfaith relations and fostering peace among Nigerians regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
Speaking after the prayers, Pastor Buru said the initiative was designed to promote tolerance, love, and unity.
“We are here to wish our Muslim brothers and sisters Barka da Sallah and to strengthen good relationships for peace and unity in Northern Nigeria,” he said.
He added that Nigeria would achieve greater development if citizens embraced peaceful coexistence and worked together for the collective good of the country.
According to him, the visit marked the fifth consecutive year his team has participated in Eid celebrations in Kaduna, describing it as a consistent commitment to peacebuilding.
Addressing worshippers, he said religious festivals provide opportunities for Christians and Muslims to build friendships and deepen national unity.
“We must remember that we are one family under God, worshipping the same Creator. Both the Qur’an and the Bible are holy books sent by one God,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to set aside religious and ethnic divisions and work towards a united and prosperous nation.
Also speaking, Pastor Rawland Sanda from Southern Kaduna said the delegation’s presence was to encourage religious tolerance, mutual understanding, and lasting peace.
The Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Sheikh Habib Umar Mahmood, commended the clerics for their consistent commitment to interfaith harmony.
A member of the Eid praying ground committee, Mallam Sunusi Surajo, also praised the initiative and urged the federal government to consider Pastor Buru for a national honour in recognition of his peace efforts.
