Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has felicitated with the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of this year’s Eid el-Kabir celebration, calling on the faithful to uphold the virtues of sacrifice, love, unity and obedience as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

In a goodwill message issued by his spokesperson, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the governor described Eid el-Kabir as a season of sacrifice, sharing and compassion, urging Muslims to remain steadfast in promoting peace and harmonious coexistence in society.

Governor Yahaya stressed the need for continued prayers for peace, prosperity and sustainable development in Gombe State and Nigeria, especially amid prevailing socio-economic and security challenges facing the nation.

“Gombe State is peaceful, stable and progressive, and that has a lot to do with the spirit of peace, unity in diversity and tolerance that has been consistently nurtured and fostered among our people. I therefore charge us to maintain this spirit,” the governor said.

The governor, who is also Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, noted that this year’s Eid celebration coincides with the commencement of political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning against allowing politics to overshadow the spiritual significance of the festival.

According to him, the season should serve as a reminder of compassion, selflessness, obedience to Almighty Allah and love for one another, rather than division and unhealthy political rivalry.

Governor Yahaya also expressed appreciation to traditional rulers, religious and community leaders, as well as the people of Gombe State, for their continued support and cooperation with his administration.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to implementing people-oriented policies, programmes and projects aimed at accelerating socio-economic development in the state.

The governor urged residents to remain vigilant and security conscious by reporting suspicious activities capable of threatening peace and stability in the state.

“Government will not abdicate its primary responsibility of protecting lives and property. We will continue to support security agencies in their efforts to sustain peace and security across our dear state,” he assured.

On the rainy season, Yahaya called on citizens to pray for steady rainfall and bumper harvests while also taking proactive environmental measures to prevent flooding.

He advised residents to keep their surroundings clean, clear drainage channels and avoid flood-prone areas to reduce the impact of flooding during the rainy season.

The governor prayed for a peaceful and hitch-free Eid celebration, filled with Allah’s blessings, mercy and benevolence for the people of Gombe State and Nigeria at large.
