Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerians to use the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir to intensify prayers for peace and security, urging citizens to reflect on national unity and collective responsibility amid ongoing challenges.

In his Eid-el-Kabir message, Jonathan said the Islamic festival offers a timely reminder of the values of faith, obedience and sacrifice, which he noted are essential for nation-building and sustaining hope in difficult periods.

“This celebration calls us to reflect on the great lessons of faith, obedience, and sacrifice,” Jonathan said.

“It reminds us that even in difficult times, absolute trust in God and willingness to put the greater good above ourselves will always lead to a path of blessing and hope.”

He observed that Nigeria is currently confronting challenges that require both spiritual reflection and collective action, particularly in the areas of peace and security.

“Today, our nation is going through challenges that demand our collective prayers and actions, especially for peace and security.

“We must see our diversity as a source of strength, not division,” he stated.

Jonathan stressed that the spirit of devotion and selflessness symbolised by Eid-el-Kabir should guide citizens’ approach to governance, civic responsibility and national cohesion.

“True nation-building requires the same spirit of devotion and duty that this festival stands for,” he added.

He further called on Nigerians to remain united and committed to safeguarding the country’s future.

“As we celebrate, let us stand together with renewed resolve to safeguard our country and guarantee a secure, stable, and prosperous future for all Nigerians,” he said.

Jonathan also offered prayers for divine protection and blessings upon the country as Muslims across Nigeria and the world mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
