The National President of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alh Aliyu Otta – Uthman, has urged the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, Mr Umar Muhammed, to intensify efforts at tackling security challenges in the state.
Otta-Uthman made the appeal when he led a delegation of the IEDPU on a courtesy visit to the NSCDC commandant in his office in Ilorin, the state capital.
He described NSCDC as a very close security agency to the community and commended its efforts in maintaining peace and order in the state.
Otta-Uthman drew the attention of the commandant to the prevalence of thugs in the community and the state at large, particularly those who stationed themselves at some strategic areas within the city of Ilorin.
He notes that the majority of the thugs are those evicted from neighbouring states, adding that urgent steps need to be taken against their evil and ungodly acts.
The community leader, while pledging his union’s support in the fight against crimes and criminalities in the Emirate, informed the commandant of the 58th national conference of the union coming up between 25 and 26 December, 2023 at the forecourt of Emir’s Palace, Ilorin and Afon, the headquarters of Asa Local Government Area.
In his response, the NSCDC commandant, Mr Umar Muhammed, called for collaborative effort in fighting crime and criminality in the state.
He said that the NSCDC could only be more effective if it has access to useful and credible information from members of the public.
