EKEDC Tennis Event Ends Today At Ikoyi Club

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company sponsored tennis tournament which started on Monday at the Ikoyi Club 1938 will climax today, April 26.

Members of the elite club, grouped into various units of the EKEDC, are competing for laurels in two groups, named the Blue and Red group.

Chairman of the Ikoyi Club Tennis section, Diran Famakinwa, said the 2024 EKEDC Team event Tennis Championship, which is in its third edition, has brought out the best from the participating members in the past five days.

“We are really excited that members can compete under a friendly atmosphere and the competition has been keenly contested. Again, because it is a team event, it has been so interesting,” Famakinwa said.

Vice Chairman of the tennis section, Evans Uko, noted that the final day will be highly thrilling at the Ikoyi Club.

“We are ready for the final day. All the teams did well from day one and we expect a very wonderful final.

In the Red Group, Ibeju District, Orile District, Island District and Lekki District are competed for honours in Groups A and B while in the Blue Group, Agbara District, Ijora District, FESTAC District and Apapa District are also vied for honours in Groups A and B.

After the opening two days of the tournament, FESTAC and Ijora District are ahead in the blue Group with 30 and 29 cumulative points respectively and they are closely followed by Agbara District with 27 points,

Lady Captain of Ikoyi Club Tennis section, Oluwawemimo Ogunsanya, expressed delight about the turnout of members for the competition.

“Our people came all out for this event and since Monday it has been a huge success story,” she said.
