Ekiti State government has said that it is considering rejigging the security architecture of the state by establishing additional informal security outfits.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji stated this at the passing out parade of additional 404 personnel newly recruited into three security outfits of the state at the NYSC Orientation Camp ground, Ise Ekiti.
He said the new move would take community participation into cognisance and complement efforts of the formal security agencies in the state.
The personnel were recruited into the Ekiti State Security Network Agency, code-named Amotekun, the Agro-Marshal and Anti-grazing Corps as part of the state government efforts to strengthen the state’s security architecture especially at the grassroots.
Represented by his special adviser on Security, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd), the governor described the recruitment of the new security operatives as a sustained investment in the state’s security architecture.
He said the move underscores his administration’s commitment to safety of lives and property of residents of the state as well as strengthening the state’s security framework.
According to him, it marked a significant milestone in the collective pursuit of a safer Ekiti State which came as a result of the marching order issued to the security agencies to reposition and address the emerging security challenges in the state.
He attributed the state’s relative peaceful atmosphere to deliberate planning, unrelenting investment, and concerted efforts aimed at creating a safe and conducive atmosphere to grow the economy through protection of lives and Property, protection of the Agric clusters to ensure food security and enhance intelligence gathering and sharing.
Congratulating the newly recruited operatives who have successfully gone through three weeks of rigorous training, Gen. Ogundana urged them to let conscience guide their actions as they will be required to give account of their stewardship when the need arises.
