The newly constituted management team of Ekiti Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (EEDCL) has been advised to take advantage of the 2023 Electricity Constitutional Amendment Act and Ekiti Electricity Sector Reform Law.

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, gave the advice when the management of the EEDCL, an unbundled subsidiary of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Ado Ekiti the state capital. He said this would help the company make a positive inroads into the Ekiti Electricity Supply Industry.

He expressed the state government’s readiness to partner with and support any credible investor who supplies electricity to Ekiti.

The commissioner, who assured that the market is open for every electricity service provider, also suggested to the company the use of renewable energy to provide electricity to critical government facilities, such as Water Dams, the Agriculture Processing Zone, and the Ekiti Knowledge Zone, or the expansion of the CNG-based Ekiti Independent Power Project (IPP).
He recalled that the State Electricity Regulatory Bureau had issued three orders to guide electricity investors in the state.

Aluko said these include the Order on Mandatory Metering to ensure accurate and fair metering of electricity consumption; the Order on Tariffs to regulate electricity tariffs, with a methodology maintained in line with the Federal Government’s tariff calculation (MYTO); and the Order on Electrical Standardization to maintain standardisation in electrical installations and equipment nationwide.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Electricity Regulatory Bureau, Engr David Dare Samson, appreciated the company’s proactive approach since its arrival. He also encouraged the Company to accurately ascertain its asset inventory and customer database and ensure every customer is metered for proper energy accountability.
