Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo has commended the NNPC Limited/TotalEnergies Joint Venture for achieving zero routine gas flare in all its Nigerian assets.

Ekpo in a statement by his spokesman, Louis Ibah, described the achievement as a testament to the  collective commitment of the government, operators  and other industry stakeholders to environmental stewardship and sustainable development in the energy sector.

According to the gas minister, TotalEnergies achievement of zero-routine gas flaring in all exploration and production operations in Nigeria, especially in OML 100, aligns with the Federal Government’s policy on gas as a pivotal transition fuel even as it showcases the synergy between the government and private entities like TotalEnergies in paving the way for sustainable energy future.

Ekpo said: “I commend TotalEnergies for leading by example, demonstrating that with commitment, innovation, and collaboration, we can achieve our environmental goals while boosting socio-economic development. Let this success at OML 100 serve as an inspiration for other companies within Nigeria and globally to adopt sustainable practices in energy production.”

Recall that the Nigerian National Petroleum  Company (NNPC)  Ltd/TotalEnergies Joint Venture had on Thursday announced the achievement of zero routine gas flare in all its assets.

The NNPC Ltd/TotalEnergies Joint Venture, which is the concession holder of four leases, had hitherto achieved zero routine flaring across OML 99 (2006), OML 102 (2014), and OML 58 (2016), leaving OML 100 as the only lease with routine flaring going on.

The NNPC said that the significance of this achievement is that the last routine flare volume of about  12 million standard cubic feet per day  (12MMscf/d) of gas has now been eliminated giving rise to a greenhouse gas emissions reduction of about 341KtCO₂e/yr.
