A Public Affairs Analyst, Mr Dan Kunle, has said that the state of the nation’s power sector will need the knowledge and person of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai to revamp it.
He also said President Bola Tinubu will need El-Rufai to achieve his aim of revamping the power sector for national industrialisation and productivity.
Dan Kunle spoke on Thursday as a guest on LEADERSHIP TV, our sister digital platform.
He emphasised that El-Rufai’s previous contribution to the power sector reform around year 2000 was the driving force behind the sector’s transformation.
He, however, lamented that subsequent policy somersaults eroded the gains engender by the immediate-past Kaduna State governor.
He said: “Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai is the genesis of the power sector reform, he worked and he brought a very highly and knowledgeable Nigerian, Dr. Larry Babalola.
“If you see this interview, I’m going to mention names of people who have contributed significantly to the reform. But because of changes in policy every four years, those good ingredients of the reform that were packaged from the year 2000 to 2007 had been eroded over time.
“So, I expect Asiwaju (Tinubu) to now assemble people of different backgrounds with his new team to help build the robust power sector reform because the power sector is down now. Who has that type of courage and understanding, inside knowledge more than El-Rufai? There are, but we have not seen one. El-Rufai is the one we have seen. We have seen his testimony today.”
He added that a group of individuals, including himself, were actively rooting for El-Rufai to replay the same role he previously played in the power sector now, because of their collective wealth of knowledge and understanding of the intricate architecture of the country’s power sector, which positions them well to contribute meaningfully.
“And some of us are around him to do this job. Because we have fairly reasonable knowledge and understanding of the architecture of the power sector of this country,” he stated.
Dan Kunle, therefore, asked rhetorically, “And importantly, people don’t know that the noise we have made about electricity sector and propaganda in the last eight years, what has it earned us?”
