The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has given the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), seven days to provide evidence supporting his allegation that El-Rufai planned killings in Southern Kaduna or retract the claim.
The family also threatened to pursue legal action against the Defence Minister if he fails to substantiate the allegation or issue a public retraction and apology within the stipulated period.
In a statement issued on Monday by El-Rufai’s son and member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the family said it could not overlook what it described as a grave allegation made against the former governor during a live television programme.
The family was reacting to comments allegedly made by Musa on September 3, 2026, during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, where the Defence Minister accused El-Rufai of actively planning killings in Southern Kaduna while he was governor of the state.
The statement said the allegation was made without evidence being presented to substantiate the claim.
“While General Musa (Rtd.) is entitled to hold and express his personal opinions, the El-Rufai family is equally entitled to demand that such serious allegations be substantiated with credible evidence,” the statement said.
The family consequently demanded that Musa either provide evidence supporting the allegation or publicly retract it through the same medium where it was made.
“Accordingly, General Musa (Rtd.) is hereby given seven (7) days from the date of this statement to either provide evidence in support of his allegation or issue a full public retraction and apology,” the family said.
It warned that failure to comply within the seven-day period would leave the family with “no option but to pursue all appropriate legal remedies available under the law” over what it described as unsubstantiated allegations.
The statement was signed by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the family.
