The need to elect capable leaders in the general elections has been identified as the only way Nigeria can attain the long-awaited transformation.
Speaking to journalists at the office of the North Central Peoples’ Forum (NCPF) in Abuja, the chairman, National Working Committee of the forum, Arc. Gabriel Yakubu Aduku, said visionary leadership is the most important need of the nation at this moment.
He said: “At the crux of every nation’s development is visionary, committed and capable leadership. Interestingly, representative democracy has made it possible for such leadership to emerge through periodic elections which is one of its cardinal pillars.”
Aduku, a former minister of state for health, said Nigeria, being among the largest growing democracies in the world, had enjoyed over two decades of unfettered democratic governance after many years of military interregnum.
“’The North Central Peoples Forum (NCPF) has continued to stand for and promote all efforts that are geared towards equitable development of the country,” he said, adding that the forum would spare no further energy to contribute her quota to the emergence of such leadership that is capable and committed to all-around development of the country, regardless of region, religion or ethnicity.
Aduku implored the in-coming administration to prioritise the establishment of North Central Zone Developmental Commission (NCZDC) which would address the myriad of development challenges being experienced by the zone.
