The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has said that the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) is impacting positively towards revamping the nation’s economy and poverty elimination.
He spoke yesterday when the president of the Islamic Development Bank, Dr Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser paid him a courtesy visit at his palace.
According to him, the IDB has become a veritable tool of job creation and empowering of the less privileged in the society.
A mini-durbar was organised by the Kano Emirate Council in honour of the visiting president of the bank shortly after his arrival at the palace.
Emir Bayero expressed happiness over the visit which was in line with the cordial relationship between the palace and the bank.
“We are indeed happy that the bank had chosen one of the illustrious sons of Kano and made him the deputy president of the bank. And in the same vein it coincided with his turbaning coming in two days as the district head of Dambatta thereby succeeding his late father Alhaji Muktar Adnan Dambatta of blessed memory,” he said.
Earlier, the president of the IDB, Dr Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser informed the Emir that Kano is his first port of call given the position of Kano as the most populous state in the country.
He said Kano State had so far benefitted from the laudable initiative of the Islamic bank through the federal government where the bank gave it $90 million to implement its Agro Pastoral Development Project (KSADP). Jasser revealed further that the state government also provided counterpart funding of $95 million.
Jasser said the project would among others develop agro-pastoral production system in the state, provision of grazing reserves and invest in livestock routes among others.
