The campaign, which was launched yesterday in collaboration with the Green Legacy Foundation under the leadership of the Magajin Garin Kano, received diverse seedlings for planting in several communities in the emirate.

The emir commended the foundation for its support and described the initiative as a milestone in addressing the challenge of desert encroachment.

He directed district, village, and ward heads to ensure the proper care and monitoring of the seedlings.

The chairman of the Ningi local government area, Hon. Nasiru Zakarai, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to safeguarding the environment against illegal logging and charcoal production.

He noted that with this initiative, Ningi becomes the second local government in Bauchi State to embark on such a massive tree-planting drive.

Also present was the chairman of the Warji local government, Hon. Aminu Barmini, who urged Ningi to involve volunteers in maintaining the trees by offering them stipends. He praised the Magajin Garin Kano for his dedication to environmental conservation.

Representing the Madakin Kano, Dr Aminu Wada Fanda explained that the seedlings were supplied through the Green Legacy Foundation in partnership with the Gaya Emirate Council.

He added that the foundation has executed similar projects in 18 local government areas of Kano State, underscoring its commitment to the fight against desertification.

Earlier, the District Head of Ari, Alhaji Muhammad Kilishi Musa, thanked the Emirate Council and the Green Legacy Foundation for spearheading the initiative.
