The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has announced the cancellation of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir Durbar, citing the need to ensure public peace and allow the Eid festivities to be celebrated in an atmosphere of peace and comfort.

This was revealed by Emir Sanusi II during a late-night press conference on Thursday at his palace in Kofar Kudu.

The Emir explained that the decision followed consultations between the Kano Emirate Council and the State government. He emphasised that the move was made in the best interest of the people to ensure a peaceful Eid celebration.

LEADERSHIP reports that the Emir had earlier directed all district heads in the Emirate to gather at the palace in preparation for the traditional Durbar activities. However, the Kano State Police Command swiftly reiterated an existing ban on all Durbar processions across the state, citing security concerns.

During the briefing, Emir Sanusi II urged the public to make efforts to observe both the Eid and Friday congregational prayers, stressing that doing so would attract immense spiritual rewards.

He also cautioned against relying on religious opinions that claim attending Friday prayers is not necessary if one has already observed the Eid prayer, stating that such views should not be used as an excuse to neglect religious obligations.
