The Pindiga Emirate Council in Gombe State has rejected the plan by the senator representing Gombe Central Danjuma Goje to demolish and reconstruct the Pindiga Central Mosque close to the Emir’s Palace in Tumu community.
In a statement signed by the emirate’s secretary, Mohammed Audi, he said the convened a meeting with the kingmakers and district heads for their views on the plan to reconstruct two mosques. Audi said all the stakeholders opposed the idea.
He said the stakeholders believed that the two mosques were in good state and do not need to be demolished.
They asked Goje to carry out other development projects in the two communities rather than reconstructing the worship centres.
“The Pindiga Emirate Council is determined to inform the entire good people of Pindiga Emirate that today, Monday 29th January, 2024 undertook an emergency meeting with its Council and all other relevant stakeholders over the prevailing rumour of the motion to demolish the two Central Masjids of Pindiga and Tumu by Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje in order to build new ones.
“It was unanimously agreed that the two Masjids of Pindiga and Tumu are all in good condition and up-to standard, and therefore should be left as they are. Instead, anybody who is eager to benefit the community should look for other important projects that will equally contribute to the development of our people.
“With all due respect and honour, we are notifying all the appropriate authorities of our stand that our people rejected the demand of Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje to demolish the Central Masjids of Pindiga and Tumu for now,” he said.
