Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the maintenance of 83 roads within Uyo metropolis and the rehabilitation of the delapidated Aka Itiam Road.

The governor gave the order after a briefing by the Ministry of Works at the ongoing ministerial press conference by ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of government.

Amitec Construction and Development Limited (ACDL), the governor disclosed, had been mobilised for the job with marching orders that “all the failed portions must be fixed before the dry season is over.”

He listed some of the affected roads to include; Oron Road, by Udo Umana and others such as Udo Eduok, Okon Essien, Plaza bypass, Ikot Ekpene, Abak Road, Clement Isong, Part of Nsikak Eduok Avenue, and Port Harcourt Street.

Also in the list are; Itam Junction roundabout, part of Obio Imo Street, D’Angelo Hotel and EFCC roads in Ewet Housing Estate, Johnson Street, off Aka Road, and Ekpenyong Street among others.

The governor also received briefings from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, where he gave approval to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs for the first quarter distribution of food to vulnerable citizens to take place during the forthcoming Easter period.

For the Ministry of Education, the governor approved the payment of first and second term subventions for public primary, secondary and technical colleges; payment of WASSCE, NABTEB and science practical fees for SS3 and ST 3 students of Akwa Ibom State origin in public schools, and purchase of uniforms, socks, bags and shoes for pupils in Model Primary Schools.

While taking briefing from the ministry of health, the Governor approved all health related 2025 counterpart funding including; health insurance, primary healthcare and programmes such as immunization, family planning and nutrition.

Governor Eno who had last year declared a state of emergency in the health sector, also gave approval for the 2024 Medical Residency Training Fund, revitalisation of the State Central Medical Stores, and issuance of appointment letters to newly engaged contract workers.
