At a dinner hosting supporters and stakeholders in Abuja, Convener of Mumsbooth, Mrs Martha Tawiyah highlighted the achievements of the organization through its ProjectStart programme.
“I’d like to say that Mumsbooth has done really well the past 6 years. I am proud of the impact we have made in Nigeria and across Africa. Like every other organization, we’ve had our highs and lows. There were times we wanted to take it slow but when we get testimonies on the impact of our work, we are resolved to keep going.
“The feedback from the women and the businesses they have started has actually been our highs. It’s truly amazing to see businesses born because of our work.
Tawiyah while speaking further revealed that the organization has received recognition from like Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana, Dubai and US.
“In the past six years we have reached over 11,000 women and 1,500 children with about 62% of these women starting their businesses as a result of our Project START programs. We have a community online across different African countries where we can monitor and help them grow their businesses
“We also have a marketplace to showcase their products, and some of our women get trained on exportation by NEPC from time to time to help them put their products in the international market.”
She said through partnership with Wootlab and Microsoft, the women have been able to take digital courses for free on its platform where they get a certificate to boost their resume and grow their businesses.
On partnership and support for the project, the Convener said “For now we have leveraged on partnerships that will provide free resources for women, platforms that will help them grow. We have also partnered with organizations that provide soft loans for women, and have some organizations carry out their Corporate Social responsibilities through us by providing and supporting them with Starter materials like generators, sewing machines, mixers, seedlings and more.
“We are currently sourcing funds and grants to be able to keep reaching more women in our community.
Speaking on plans in the coming years, she said “We’re growing our community in these places at the moment, having virtual programs and on ground programs through our volunteers in Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana, Kenya and Botswana. We currently have 2 other African countries in view and all things being equal we will reach out to the women there soon physically.”
