A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Jeph Afam Ogbodo, has joined the Enugu East Senatorial Zone contest under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He promised to build on his people-driven legacy of service, empowerment and inclusive development.
Ogbodo made the declaration in Abuja after obtaining his ADC senatorial nomination form, insisting that Enugu politics cannot be driven by bandwagon trends or political sentiments.
Ignoring the growing wave of defections by politicians to the NDC, Ogbodo said he remains unfazed by the current political momentum surrounding the party nationwide, stressing that the people of Enugu are politically conscious and understand the kind of leadership they desire.
According to him, both the NDC and ADC in Enugu State maintain a cordial relationship and share a common goal of reclaiming power from the APC, adding that the alliance would not affect his resolve to pursue his ambition under the ADC platform.
“The era of political bandwagon, where people who are not credible win elections because of the influence of a principal candidate, is over,” Ogbodo stated.
“The people are now wiser and will vote for candidates of their choice, irrespective of party affiliation.”
He recalled that during the last general election, some candidates benefitted from the popularity of the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, but argued that the political landscape had since changed.
“Our people will vote for candidates who truly represent their interests, not individuals merely riding on a political wave,” he added.
Ogbodo outlined his vision for the Senate, promising to remain connected to the grassroots if elected.
“I am not going to Abuja to become an Abuja senator. I will be a people’s senator, one who is not far from his people,” he assured.
