African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District, Hon. Jeph Afam Ogbodo, has said the people of the zone deserve better representation and development.
He attributed many of the challenges facing the residents of the district to years of poor governance and ineffective leadership.
During a radio programme in Enugu yesterday, Ogbodo reaffirmed his commitment to delivering quality representation and tangible development if elected in the 2027 general elections.
According to him, his decision to contest for the Senate was driven by the people’s desire for a credible alternative to the current leadership.
“I am the alternative for Enugu East Senatorial Zone because my people drive me, and I am here for my people. Their welfare is not negotiable, and it must come first in every decision,” he said.
Ogbodo maintained that the ruling party had failed to meet the people’s expectations, stressing that the growing demand for change across the senatorial district reflects widespread dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.
He argued that if the government had delivered effectively, there would be little reason for voters to seek alternative leadership.
“The fact that families are looking for another option shows that things are not working across Enugu East. Bad governance has opened the door for new voices because the people are tired of enduring hardship while only a few benefit,” he stated.
The ADC candidate further lamented what he described as a political culture that protects the interests of a select few while leaving the majority struggling to survive.
According to him, many young people have been reduced to political tools instead of being empowered through meaningful employment and economic opportunities.
“For too long, politics has been used to protect a few while many homes struggle. The system has been kept weak so that citizens remain dependent. This is why many youths are often used as political tools instead of being supported to work, grow, and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.
Ogbodo promised to provide effective representation that addresses the needs of the people and delivers practical solutions to pressing challenges across the zone.
He said his administration would focus on policies and programmes that directly impact families, traders, students, workers, and other residents of Enugu East.
“Leadership should be close to the people and judged by results. Our priority will be to protect families, create opportunities for youths, and provide workable solutions that improve daily life,” he added.
The senatorial hopeful assured residents that he would maintain constant engagement with the people, listen to their concerns, and work collaboratively to achieve sustainable development.
He stressed that the goal is not political rhetoric but concrete actions that improve citizens’ lives.
Ogbodo, therefore, called on eligible voters across Enugu East Senatorial District to support the ADC in the 2027 elections, urging them to seize the opportunity to bring about meaningful change.
“Enugu East deserves better, and together we can achieve it. The time to change the story is now. I urge the people to come out in their numbers, support ADC, and vote for real representation that will work for them,” he said.
