Deputy national chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ben Nwoye, has described the rotation of the governorship position among Enugu State’s three senatorial districts as a key to stability and equity.
This is even as a former governor of the Old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo and former Senate president, Ken Nnamani endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah for second tenures.
Nwoye described rotation in the state as a mechanism for promoting political stability, equity and peaceful coexistence in the state.
He spoke on yesterday at Okpara Square, Enugu, during an event where stakeholders and residents of Enugu East Senatorial District endorsed Bola Tinubu and Peter Mbah for second terms in office.
The APC chieftain stated that the zoning arrangement had remained one of the major factors responsible for the peace and political stability enjoyed in Enugu State since the return to democratic governance in 1999.
According to him, the rotational system has ensured fairness and inclusiveness by giving each of the state’s three senatorial districts an opportunity to produce the governor.
“Rotation among the three senatorial districts has given us peace since 1999. It is good that this book was written because there is much to learn from it,” Nwoye said.
He noted that the arrangement had helped to foster a sense of belonging among the various political blocs in the state, thereby reducing tensions associated with the struggle for power.
Nwoye urged political leaders and stakeholders to remain committed to preserving the zoning formula, stressing that it had contributed significantly to the unity and development of the state.
“The stakeholders should sustain the peaceful political atmosphere in Enugu State brought to us through the zoning of the governorship position,” he said.
The APC deputy national chairman also commended Governor Mbah for what he described as remarkable developmental strides across the state.
Nwoye averred that the governor’s performance in office had demonstrated a commitment to improving infrastructure and governance, adding that he deserved the support of the people to complete a second term.
Nwoye further maintained that continuity in governance would enable ongoing projects and reforms to be consolidated for the benefit of residents.
The endorsement ceremony attracted political leaders, community representatives, traditional rulers and supporters from across Enugu East Senatorial District, who gathered to express support for President Tinubu and Governor Mbah
