Residents of Enugu have lauded what they described as improved power supply in different parts of the state.

Most of the residents who spoke to our correspondent in an exclusive interview attributed the improvement to the establishment Of the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC).

Shortly after its birth, EERC licensed Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited to replace the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) in distributing electricity in Enugu State.

They claimed that since its establishment, the EERC has alleviated the sufferings of the state’s residents.

Speaking with our correspondent, Mr Obinna Obikwu, a resident of Maryland, said they rarely experience power outages since EERC started to regulate the sector in the state.

“Honestly, we have been experiencing improved power supply in recent times. We know what we were suffering in the past. I’m sorry to say this, but the truth is that EEDC failed woefully, and we suffered a lot, but in recent times, we have had an improved power supply.

” When electricity is consistent, people will be ready to pay even more to have the power. What we were experiencing in the past was a sad experience; despite poor power supply, people were still forced to pay for what they did not use,” he stated.

Another resident, Loveday Ikpeama, corroborated Obikwu’s statement, adding that they have recently enjoyed a steady power supply.

However, he pleaded that those on estimation status should be provided with prepaid meters to enjoy the improved power supply.

Our investigation revealed that the power supply has improved in recent times.
