Enyimba finally secured their first victory of the Nigeria Premier Football League season after producing a dominant first-half display to defeat Shooting Stars 4-2 in Aba on Wednesday.
The home side wasted little time asserting their authority, with C. R. Ezinwa opening the scoring in the seventh minute.
Enyimba doubled their advantage in the 29th minute when C. Ezeifule found the net, before A. I. Kani added a third seven minutes later to give the hosts a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time.
Shooting Stars struggled to cope with Enyimba’s attacking pressure in the opening 45 minutes, with the visitors heading into the interval three goals down.
Enyimba continued where they left off after the restart and extended their lead in the 49th minute through I. Ihemekwele, making it 4-0.
Shooting Stars, however, refused to surrender and pulled a goal back through A. Mustapha in the 76th minute.
The visitors reduced the deficit further in added time when J. Atule scored in the 91st minute, but Enyimba held on to claim a 4-2 victory.
The result marked Enyimba’s first win of the campaign and provided a major boost to their season after a difficult opening spell.
For Shooting Stars, the defeat ended their hopes of taking anything from the Aba encounter despite their late fightback.
