Art enthusiasts in the city of Abuja were recently hosted to a lustrous evening where colors mingled with the philosophy of time on every arresting art piece displayed.
The solo exhibition organised by Sikart Creative, with the theme “The Cosmology of Time”,was hosted at the Thought Pyramid Art Centre, Wuse Abuja.
The exhibition marked the return of Ernest Lainé, a 63-year-old French Beninese artist, whose creative precedence has spanned through the ages.
Speaking to newsmen, Lainé expressed his excitement about debuting his solo exhibition in Africa for the first time.
He revealed that his family is the major anchor upon which his creativity brews.
According to him, time is gradual in the way it reveals the many sides to the making of a whole being.
He said: “I am so emotional seeing my exhibition in Africa, and the beautiful city of Abuja. I thank my Amazon daughter Enya for making this dream a reality. My family is so important to my artistic process because I draw inspiration from them.
“Art is so alive in Nigeria and I am ready to continue to collaborate. The cosmology of time as portrayed in my works is simply how we evolve as time ticks. A perfect allowance for self-discovery.”
Aisha Aliyu-Bima, the curator, revealed that exhibitions such as this stretch people’s minds to myriad possibilities.
She also stated that Lainé created a strong cultural statement that helped bring a lot of communities together.
“The exhibition is important because it shows the evolution of the artist’s practice, it shows the effect of time and the way Lainé perceives it.
“It opens up people’s minds to possibilities. The artist has tried to cross intercultural boundaries, which is a strong statement,” she said.
