Concerned with the increase in the number of accidents especially on major highways, the executive secretary of the Yobe State Medical Ambulance Services, Abdullahi Ali Danchuwa has called motorists to adhere to road traffic rules at all times.
A statement issued by the Information and Public Relations Officer of the Agency, Ibrahim Waziri said the ES was reacting to a tragic road accident near Gobarawa, close to Kukareta in Damaturu Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of four individuals and left 12 others injured.
The accident involved an 18-seater bus traveling from Damaturu to Maiduguri.
Danchuwa said, “Motorists must adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such incidents.
“This accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety. Drivers must exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations to prevent such devastating incidents.”
The ES who extended condolences to the families of the deceased, wished the injured a swift recovery, and commended the prompt response of security personnel and YEMABUS teams in managing the situation.
According to Mohammed Alhaji Goni, a YEMABUS rescue crew member, the crash occurred when the bus collided with a blue Peugeot 406 that had lost control, before veering into a ditch.
Preliminary investigations however suggest that excessive speeding by the bus driver may have been a contributing factor.
The injured victims have been referred to the Teaching Hospital in Damaturu for medical attention.
