Former Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Prof. Charles Esimone, has been honored with the Public Servant of the Year award at the prestigious Anambra Man of the Year (AMTY) Award, earning accolades from prominent figures, including business magnate Aliko Dangote.
Prof. Esimone, a distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Microbiology, served as the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK, Awka, Anambra State.
During his tenure, he led the institution to remarkable progress, moving it from 4,000th to 1,000th position in the global university ranking and securing over $200 million in funding for the university.
The award ceremony, held at the Stanel Dome in Awka, attracted high-profile personalities, including Keystone Bank Chairman, Lady Ada Chukwudozie; Falcon Corporation MD, Prof. Joe Ezigbo; Segofs Energy Group GMD, Engr. Barth Nwibe, among others.
In a congratulatory message, Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, commended Prof. Esimone’s dedication, leadership, and contributions to society.
Similarly, Esimone’s predecessor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, praised his transformative impact on UNIZIK.
Dr. Godwin Maduka, Founder of Las Vegas Pain Institute and former Anambra governorship candidate, described Esimone as a global icon, stating: “Prof. Esimone is an excellent public servant with an impeccable track record. He transformed UNIZIK into a world-class university.”
