Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL), an affiliate of ExxonMobil, has commenced the development of a permanent Shore Base facility at the Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base (LADOL), following a groundbreaking ceremony held on Thursday.
The facility, being developed by LADOL with full funding support from EEPNL under a long-term Logistics Base Contract, will serve as EEPNL’s primary Shore Base to support Erha FPSO operations. Upon completion, it will form part of LADOL’s permanent infrastructure.
The ceremony, held at LADOL in Apapa Port, Lagos, was attended by officials of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), the National Upstream Petroleum Investment Management Services (NUIMS), and other industry stakeholders.
According to the company, the facility will include administrative offices, warehouses, covered storage areas, chemical storage units, open laydown areas, and pipe sheds, all designed to improve safety, efficiency, and reliability in logistics operations.
Construction of the project will be largely executed by Nigerian companies, with local professionals leading key stages, including engineering, design, construction and commissioning.
The chairman and managing director of ExxonMobil affiliates in Nigeria, Jagir Baxi, said the project reflects the company’s long-term commitment to Nigeria’s deepwater sector and its partnership with LADOL.
He noted that the facility’s location within LADOL would improve logistics efficiency and operational readiness, while also attracting suppliers, service providers, and investors to expand their presence in Nigeria.
Baxi added that the development would strengthen LADOL’s infrastructure and create opportunities for shared Shore Base resources across the deepwater industry.
The project is also expected to generate employment during the construction phase and throughout the facility’s lifecycle, while supporting the growth of indigenous technical, logistics and supply chain capabilities.
The Shore Base development represents a milestone for LADOL as the first permanent full Shore Base facility within the logistics base to be fully funded by an international oil company, reinforcing its position as a strategic hub for Nigeria’s deepwater oil and gas operations.
