Outgoing Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 6, Calabar, Mustapha Mohammed, has attributed his success in combating crime to collaboration with community members and stakeholders.

Mohammed, who retired recently, stated this yesterday during a farewell parade and interaction with journalists in Calabar.

The retired AIG who spoke shortly after bidding farewell to officers who worked under him during his pullout parade in Calabar, averred that upon assumption in office, he collaborated with critical stakeholders to enable him and his team gain an upper hand over criminals.

According to him, working closely with critical stakeholders in the local communities were very helpful in tackling insecurity in places like Bakassi and other places.

He stated that this approach enabled him and his team to effectively conquer crime in the zone, adding that with such an approach, there was no crime committed under his watch that he didn’t know what to do to bring the situation under control.

He stressed that application of SWAT analysis was used to weigh the strength and weaknesses of areas under his control.

Explaining that once he concludes conducting a threat analysis, he returns to the drawing board where he strategises on how to smoke out the criminal elements from their hideouts.

He said that collaborating with community locals via the use of community safety partnership approach aided him and his team to launch attacks that led to his success stories.

“You cannot ensure safety in any hostile area without collaboration with critical stakeholders and that was what helped us.

“I advise my successor, whoever comes in to continue from where I stopped, to collaborate with locals. I have no regrets joining the police force to serve my fatherland, Nigeria,” he maintained.

Mohammed urged young officers in positions of authority to always toe the path of justice to give peace not only to the rich and powerful but to the common man on the street.

“In whatever you do as a police officer, ensure that there is justice and have the fear of God. That is the only way you can succeed,” he added.
