A former National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sadiq Abubakar, has announced his resignation from the ruling party over what he described as a “lack of fairness in the party.”

Abubakar made this known on Wednesday during an interview with journalists in Bauchi, stating that his decision was not solely based on the economic hardship currently affecting many Nigerian households.

He explained that his exit was driven by the need to pursue a platform that guarantees fairness and transparency in primary elections, enabling him to continue serving the people with integrity and commitment.

According to him, the decision followed extensive consultations with family members, friends, political associates, and key stakeholders, as well as careful reflection on recent developments within the party’s structure and internal processes.

“It is time to align with a political party that has a clear vision and genuine compassion for the common man,” he said.

Abubakar criticised the APC’s internal mechanisms, describing them as unjust and lacking fairness.

“The processes within the APC are not working. There is no justice or fairness, particularly in the conduct of primaries and consensus arrangements.

“I am convinced that the upcoming primaries will not be fair, as the power of incumbency will likely be used to influence outcomes,” he stated.

He also expressed concern over the economic situation in the country, noting that many families are struggling to afford basic needs.

“What is happening today is making it increasingly difficult for families to put food on the table,” he added.

The former APC National Youth Leader, however, said he would soon announce the political party he intends to join.
