A former national secretary of the defunct Action party of Nigeria( APN) Salihu Dantata Mahmud has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leadership to cancel the state assembly primaries in Bauchi State.
He said the state resident electoral commissioner violated provisions of the electoral act which stipulates that consensus can only be achieved when all aspirants agree to withdraw and ratify the consensus candidate.
He, however, said that in the case of the Bura, Dass, Dambam/Dagauda Ganjuwa East, Giade, Shira, Lame, Toro/Jamaa, Madara/Chinade, Katagum, Jamaare, and Warji state constituencies, primaries were not conducted.
He said at a time the only progressive party is battling with an image problem, such irregularities must be corrected if the party must win elections in Bauchi state.
“I am therefore imploring the national chairman to intervene for redress as well as the independent national electoral commission.
“We should not forget the fact that PDP is presently in control of the state governorship machinery, if as progressives we don’t do the needful, 2023 could spell doom.
“I have personally visited these constituencies in my capacity as a former party scribe known to be registered by late Jakande who himself was the party pioneer chairman and if the chronicle of progressives in the second Republic till death is to be taken, Dr. Jakande comes first going by his worthy credentials.
“The earlier measures are taken the better for the benefit of progressives in the country. When within the party, internal democracy and equality are lacking, how then do you convince electorates,” he added.
