A former Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Bauchi State Branch, Umar Lauya, has declared his intention to contest for the position of National President of the Council, promising to place youth empowerment, innovation, and unity at the core of his agenda.
Speaking at the declaration event, a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Baba Iyali described Lauya as “a disciplined and upright leader” who has “displayed leadership traits at several points in life.”
He praised Lauya’s past performance as youth leader, noting that “he did remarkably well when he was the chairman of NYCN, Bauchi Branch.”
Reading his declaration, Lauya emphasised that his candidacy was rooted in a clear purpose, pledging to equip Nigerian youths with skills, foster innovations, and drive job creation.
Outlining key priorities if elected, the NYCN presidential hopeful highlighted empowering young people through skills, innovation, and job creation; sports, collaboration with the entertainment and creative industry and reviving leadership within student youth bodies, among other initiatives.
Listing his prior achievements, Lauya said he “built and rebuilt youth empowerment in Bauchi,” and noted his service as a member of the ECOWAS Committee on Counter‑Terrorism, representing Nigeria.
“This is not about me, but about us; let us unite to claim and reclaim the future, let us build our future together,” he said.
