The mother of former Bauchi State governor and former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, Hajiya Halima Sulaiman Rabi’u, was laid to rest in Medina, Saudi Arabia according to Islamic rites.
Hajiya Halima died at the age of 92 on Saturday, November 1, 2025 (10th Jumada Al-Awwal, 1447 AH), at the Saudi-German Hospital in Medina, after a brief illness.
The death was formally announced by her grandson, Ahmed Ahmadu Mu’azu Jr., who, in a statement, expressed the family’s gratitude to Almighty Allah despite the emotional burden of the loss.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un (Verily we belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return). It is with gratitude to Almighty Allah and a deep sense of emotional burden that the family of His Excellency (Dr.) Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu wishes to announce the passing of his mother, Hajiya Halima Sulaiman Rabi’u,” the statement read.
The family described the late matriarch as a devoted mother and grandmother survived by a son, numerous grandchildren, and relatives, “It is our prayer that her soul rests in perfect peace and that Allah grants her Al-Jannatul Firdaus,” the family said, while soliciting prayers from well-wishers.
Upon returning from Saudi Arabia, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State paid a condolence visit to Mu’azu at his residence in Bauchi. The governor was accompanied by his deputy, commissioners, and other senior government officials.
Governor Bala described the late Hajiya Halima as a virtuous and exemplary mother who raised her children with strong moral and spiritual values. He noted that these qualities are reflected in the character and leadership of her son, Ahmadu Mu’azu.
“Her passing is a great loss, not only to her family but to the entire Bauchi community,” the governor said.
In his response, Dr. Mu’azu expressed deep appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed and his delegation for their solidarity and prayers during the family’s time of grief.
Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State described the death of Hajiya Halima as a “Significant loss” to both her family and the community.
In a condolence message signed by Dr. Dayyabu Chiroma, the state publicity secretary, the party stated, “The PDP joins the family, and in particular His Excellency Dr. Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, in offering condolences and prayers during this difficult time. May Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her Jannatul Firdausi.”
Meanwhile, sympathisers from various walks of life, including politicians, clerics, business leaders, journalists, and labour unions, have continued to visit the residence of the former governor to offer their condolences.
