Former Super Eagles players, Godwin Opara and Ifeanyi Udeze, are set to mentor the quarterfinalists of the ongoing Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament.
The former Super Eagles players will be present at the Stables Sports Centre in Surulere, Lagos State on the 8th and 9th of November for mentorship sessions with players before their respective matches.
Opara, a former defender, was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations, and the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
Udeze, who played as a left-back, made 35 appearances for the national team between 2000 and 2005 and featured for Nigeria in the 2002 African Cup of Nations as well as the 2004 edition, and was also part of the Super Eagles squad during the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea and Japan.
The retired stars will engage the players in football lessons, focusing on the lifestyle and character expected of budding footballers.
The final eight teams in this year’s championship will compete this weekend for a spot in the semi-finals.
On Saturday, New Generation FC will face off against Greater Tomorrow FA, while Chekas United will go head-to-head with Wasola Football Club.
Defending champions, White Tigers FC will take on All Saints Football Club, and Papa SA will clash with Blood and Sand FC on Sunday.
The 2025 Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament, which commenced on Sunday, October 26th is set to culminate in a grand finale on Saturday, November 15th.
